Architecture Firm Gains National Recognition for Austin ISD Middle School Design
(Austin, TX – June 25, 2009) A Green Building of America Award has been presented to Gus Garcia Middle School for Austin-based, Pfluger Associates Architects implementation of green building techniques on the facility. The architecture firm was selected among more than 2500 entries and will be featured in the upcoming special Real Estate & Construction Review Green Success Stories edition.
Pfluger Associates Architects, one of Texas’ leading educational planning and design firms specializing in schools and sustainable architecture, executed design techniques that resulted in Gus Garcia Middle School receiving the award. The Austin ISD school exceeds energy code requirements by 25% and was also awarded a 3-Star Rating from the Austin Green Building Program.
Gus Garcia Middle School boasts a number of energy-saving features including photovoltaic teaching panels, solar design, low VOC and recycled building materials, energy-conserving fluorescent light fixtures, low flow faucets, among many other thoughtful sustainable techniques.

Pfluger Associates Architects was also recently presented with a 2009 Texas Environmental Excellence Award (TEAA) by Texas Governor Rick Perry and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for having the “best” water conservation project in the state of Texas for its work on Champion High School in Boerne, Texas.
