Cibolo Green Elementary School is North East ISD’s first LEED Gold Certified School. The process of LEED certification created a special opportunity for the district administration, design team and general contractor to collaborate on the design and implementation of each of the school’s sustainable features. As a result, this state-of-the-art school boasts improved student attendance and lower energy consumption than other comparable district elementaries. Inside the school, individual common spaces were created for each grade level, accommodating individual and small-group learning opportunities along with large-group student activities beyond the limits of a normal classroom. The interiors of these common spaces tell the story of the six categories of LEED, serving as a teaching tool about sustainability and the building, for students and visitors alike.
